With the small amount of square footage of all the styles (roughly 900), this 4 room cottage allowed a maximum amount of single-family houses in tight areas of the mill's land. The high pitched roof would permit a mansard, although the mill did not finish any attics in this floor plan.

900 square foot cottage photoThese quaint cottages are densely packed along West Lowrance, West Gray, West Pressley, and South Academy. They also line Caldwell, Messick, Goodnight, and Lutz, where they enjoy some of the largest lots in the Mill Village, thanks to a gulley running through the area.

In his book Around These Tracks, Dr. William Brown recounts how he tried to climb a large rock in his front yard. At the time, the rocks seemed like mountains! Those rocks still adorn the yard of Dr. Brown's former home on Messick Street.
